His Excellency Ambassador Mohammad Kamran Akhtar, Permanent Representative, delivered statement during 63rd Session of Scientific & Technical Subcommittee of The United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, highlighted Pakistan’s space capabilities & achievements also launches of Earth Observation satellite Hyperspectral Satellite.

The PR highlighted Pakistan’s priority to climate resilience through space based solutions outlined in 2023 National Space Policy, including the region’s first “Nat Cat” Model to scientifically assess flood & cyclone risks, ensuring data-driven mitigations. Maintaining that air quality remains Pakistan’s top priority, PR informed the Subcommittee on the use of Sentinel-5P data to monitor pollutants in air as satellite-based evidence is crucial for formulating robust environmental policies to combat smog and stubble burning.

Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to the long-term sustainability of outer space activities through advocating for an inclusive, UN based information-sharing mechanism for Space Traffic Management (STM) to address the growing challenges of LEO congestion. Pakistan maintained that access to space technology is an inherent right of all states, and called for an end to the politicization of technical forums like International Committee on GNSS (ICG), specifically mentioning blocking of Pakistan’s membership by one country.

Pakistan emphasized the need for structured governance within the UNCOPUOS & called for the formulation of clear Terms of Reference (ToRs) for STSC Working Group of the Whole to ensure transparent, defined mechanism for electing other States as Chair of the Group. Following the success of ICAST2025, Pakistan announced the hosting of the International Conference in collaboration with UNOOSA, in Islamabad in the first half of 2026 on “Early Warning for All,” leveraging space technology for global disaster risk reduction.
