ہو صداقت کے لیے جس دل میں مرنے کی تڑپ
پہلے اپنے پیکرِ خاکی میں جاں پیدا کرے
Transliteration:
Ho sadaqat ke liye jis dil mein marne ki tadap
Pehle apne paikar-e-khaki mein jaan paida kare

اردو شرح:
١۔ علامہ اقبال رحمۃ اللّٰہ علیہ فرماتے ہیں کہ حق اور سچائی کے لیے جان دینے کا جذبہ رکھنے والے کو پہلے اپنی ذات (خودی) کو مضبوط کرنا چاہیے۔ بے جان جسم قربانی کے لائق نہیں ہوتا

Translation:
The heart that yearns to die for the sake of Truth must first breathe a (real) soul into its body of clay.
* Elaboration:
Iqbal argues that mere emotional claims of loving the “Truth” are useless. One must first develop a strong, conscious, and vibrant character (Khudi) to be worthy of making a sacrifice

پھُونک ڈالے یہ زمین و آسمانِ مستعار
اور خاکستر سے آپ اپنا جہاں پیدا کرے
Transliteration:
Phoonk dale ye zameen-o-asman-e-mustaar
Aur khakastar se aap apna jahan paida kare

اردو شرح:
٢۔ وہ کہتے ہیں کہ دوسروں کی دی ہوئی سوچ اور غلامانہ نظام (مستعار زمین و آسمان) کو آگ لگا دو۔ اپنی راکھ سے اپنا نیا جہاں تخلیق کرو، یعنی اپنی تقدیر خود لکھو۔
Translation:
Let him burn down this borrowed earth and sky, and from their ashes, create a world of his own.
* Elaboration:
He rejects living in a world built on the ideas and systems of others (the “borrowed” world). He encourages revolutionary thinking—to destroy the old, stagnant ways and build a new destiny from the remains.

زندگی کی قُوّتِ پنہاں کو کر دے آشکار
تا یہ چنگاری فروغِ جاوداں پیدا کرے
Transliteration:
Zindagi ki quwwat-e-pinhan ko kar de aashkar
Ta ye chingari farogh-e-javidan paida kare

اردو شرح:
٣۔ انسان کے اندر زندگی کی جو چھپی ہوئی طاقت ہے، اسے باہر نکالو۔ یہ چھوٹی سی چنگاری جب بھڑکتی ہے تو کبھی نہ ختم ہونے والا نور بن جاتی ہے۔
Translation:
Reveal the hidden power of life, so that this small spark may create an eternal glow.
* Elaboration:
Every individual has a “divine spark” within. Iqbal urges us to manifest this hidden potential so that our temporary existence transforms into an eternal legacy.

خاکِ مشرق پر چمک جائے مثالِ آفتاب
تا بدخشاں پھر وہی لعلِ گراں پیدا کرے
Transliteration:
Khak-e-mashriq par chamak jaye misal-e-aaftab
Ta Badakhshan phir wahi laal-e-giran paida kare

اردو شرح:
٤۔ اقبال مشرق (مسلمانوں) کی عظمتِ رفتہ کی واپسی چاہتے ہیں۔ وہ چاہتے ہیں کہ مشرق کی مٹی سے دوبارہ ایسے قیمتی ہیرے اور لعل پیدا ہوں جیسے کبھی تاریخ میں تھے۔
Translation:
Shine upon the dust of the East like the sun, so that the mines of Badakhshan may once again produce precious rubies.
* Elaboration:
Using the metaphor of Badakhshan (famous for rubies), Iqbal prays for the rebirth of greatness in the East. He wants the “dust” (the common people) to be refined into “jewels” (great leaders thinkers)/

سُوئے گردُوں نالۂ شب گیر کا بھیجے سفیر
رات کے تاروں میں اپنے رازداں پیدا کرے
Transliteration:
Su-e-gardun nala-e-shab-gir ka bheje safeer
Raat ke taron mein apne raaz-dan paida kare

اردو شرح:
٥۔ راتوں کو اٹھ کر اللہ کے حضور گریہ و زاری کرو۔ تمہاری دعا آسمانوں تک جانی چاہیے تاکہ کائنات کے ستارے تمہارے ہم راز بن جائیں۔
Translation:
Send the midnight sigh as an ambassador to the heavens; find confidants among the stars of the night.
* Elaboration:
This refers to the power of Tahajjud (night prayer) and spiritual connection. By crying out to God in the silence of the night, a person gains cosmic secrets and divine support.

یہ گھڑی محشر کی ہے، تُو عرصۂ محشر میں ہے
پیش کر غافل، عمل کوئی اگر دفتر میں ہے!
Transliteration:
Ye ghari mahshar ki hai, tu arsa-e-mahshar mein hai
Pesh kar ghafil, amal koi agar daftar mein hai!

اردو شرح:
٦۔ آخری شعر میں وہ جھنجھوڑتے ہوئے کہتے ہیں کہ اے غافل! یہ وقت قیامت کی گھڑی جیسا ہے جہاں تمہارا امتحان ہو رہا ہے۔ باتیں چھوڑو اور کوئی ٹھوس عمل کر کے دکھاؤ، کیونکہ بقا صرف عمل سے ہے۔

Translation:
This is the hour of reckoning; you are in the field of Resurrection! O heedless one, present some deed if you have any in your record!
* Elaboration:
Iqbal warns that the current era is a time of ultimate trial. It is not a time for sleep or talk, but for Action. If you have no meaningful deeds to show, you will be lost in history.
