Statistics Austria has published Austrian trade data for the year 2024. The data reflects that Pakistan-Austria trade increased by 31.5% from the previous years. The bilateral trade crossed Euro 40 million which was for the first time in over 6 years.

Pakistani exports to Austria increased by 33% (from previous year) and reached Euro 311 million. The increase in exports was led by manufactured goods which included value added textile and houses linen.

To build on this momentum, Pakistan and Austria will have a high-level virtual meeting on 23 April to further discuss strategies and increase bilateral trade. Senior officials from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Austrian Ministry of Labour and Economy are expected to join the meeting.

Austria and Pakistan enjoy manifold trade relations, with considerable potential for development on both sides. Austria’s main exports to Pakistan are synthetic staple fibres for the textile industry, machinery, electrical equipment, optical equipment and wood products. Austria also exports sugar, beverages, dairy products, plastics, synthetic filaments and various chemical products. The main imports from Pakistan are ready-made garments, clothing and accessories, leather goods, footwear, cotton, aircraft and related components, cement, toys and cereals.

The presence and work of the limited number of Austrian companies operating locally is appreciated and contributes to Pakistan’s positive image in Austria.

Economic challenges and global developments may affect the economic performance of both countries. Nevertheless, economic cooperation remains a central pillar of the bilateral relationship, and both sides are committed to further increasing the volume of trade.
