At the 35th session of UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice CCPCJ35, at the UN in Vienna. His Excellency Ambassador Mohammad Kamran Akhtar delivered a Joint Statement on Islamophobia on behalf of a cross-regional group of countries. The Ambassador of Pakistan Expressed strong condemnation of Islamophobia, in all its forms and manifestations, while voicing deep concerns over its alarming rise affecting Muslims worldwide and reaffirming solidarity with its victims. During the last 2 decades, Islamophobia has moved from fringe to become both upstream & mainstream, as manifested in profiling of Muslims, their socio-economic exclusion, scapegoating in public discourse and proliferation of hate speech, unevenly affecting Muslim women & girls.

Underscored that daily dehumanization of Muslims have enabled normalization of hostility and violence against them at individual, community and institutional The Ambassador of Pakistan recalling UNGA resolution on designation of 15 March as International Islamophobia Day & follow-up resol 78/264, tabled by Pakistan on behalf of OIC, welcomed ongoing efforts of UN Special Envoy on Islamophobia to develop a UN Action Plan against this menace. The ambassador of Pakistan Called upon the international community to stand united in condemning Islamophobia, addressing its root causes, curbing hate speech, strengthening legal frameworks, and investing in preventive measures. He also lso called upon CCPCJ to place Islamophobia high on its agenda, and on UNODC to document and analyze hate crimes related to Islamophobia, and strengthen countries’ capacities in addressing them. A new Joint Statement penned by Pakistan has been co-sponsored by 28 nations: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkiye, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.
